Hugh Schwär, O.S.B.

Brother Hugh Schwär, O.S.B., was “born at Endingen, Baden, on the 1st of April, 1808, he left Europe to join St. Vincent’s where he made simple vows on the 14th of January, 1855,” the St. Vincent’s Journal noted in his obituary. “His perpetual vows he made on the 6th of January, 1859. Brother Hugh was a butcher by trade, and worked in this capacity till the weakness of age compelled him to desist. His genial and kindly disposition endeared him to his confreres, and he died in peace with God and man.” He died on August 18, 1896, at the age of 88.

St. Vincent’s Journal, Volume 6, Number 1, September 21, 1896, page 40.
