Jacob Burgoon was born on May 30, 1747, in Anne Arundel County in Maryland.
While it is unlikely that he actually participated as a soldier in the Revolutionary War, a Revolutionary War marker decorates his tombstone. In a 1916 letter, it is written that the Adjutant General could not find any record of Burgoon being on their rolls at the War Department. The letter was from Major I.H. Burgoon of Fremont, Ohio, inquiring whether the names John, Jacob, Robert, Peter or Francis Burgon appear on the rolls of the Revolutionary War. The response, posted on a genealogy website with no attribution, indicated in the negative. Additional research is needed to complete this entry.
Later in life, Jacob Burgoon married Prudence Ann Baker in 1775 and later married Martha Lilly in 1806. He was the father of nineteen children. In 1790, Burgoon moved from Maryland to Huntington, Pennsylvania. Jacob Burgoon died on June 5, 1838. He is buried in section B.
