John Johnston was born December 28, 1875 in Lannerkshire, Scotland and emigrated to America as a young man.
He served as a private in the 5th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Company B. This unit had a service record going back to the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and was training to partake in this conflict as well. The unit had almost completed training when the armistice was signed. The unit went on to complete training in Georgia before being disbanded; however, these it did not leave the United States during the Spanish-American War.
John Johnston died in 1952 and is buried in D Annex.
